SHINO ABURAME-
Shino Aburame is a cool, collected, and solitary Chunin from Naruto's graduating year (originally from Kurenai Yuhi's Genin team 8 along with Hinata Hyuga and Kiba Inuzuka) who is quite mysterious and always wears sunglasses. He is portrayed as being somewhere between being merely stoic and matter-of-fact, but behind his reserved demeanor, Shino places a lot of value on his friends and teamwork. He also has a tendency of holding grudges, such as seen when Naruto fails to recognize him in Part II, but easily recognizes Kiba and Hinata. To be fair, Shino's style of clothing makes recognizing him somewhat difficult. As a part of Aburame clan tradition, Shino was infused at birth with a special breed of insects that feed on chakra. In return, the insects attack and do other tasks as he commands.

Shino's favorite food is vegetable salad, and his least favorites tofu balls and strong-smelling foods. His hobby is observing bugs, and his favorite phrase is "Trump card" (In the English version, it's "Ace in the hole").

In the first part of the Chunin exam, Shino uses his insects to read the answers on other people's tests. During the second part, his knowledge of insects allows his team to take another team's scroll with little effort, thanks to some rather large leeches that live in the Forest of Death.

During the preliminaries of the Chunin exam, Shino is matched against Zaku Abumi, whom he defeats by plugging up the air tubes in his arms with bugs, rendering them useless. (In the manga, Zaku's right forearm is blown off completely when he tries to use the air tubes; in the anime they are merely riddled with holes.) He appears very confident in his abilities, and demonstrates his strategic thinking in this battle. During most of the fight, he simply recommends that Zaku forfeit for his own good, a recommendation that turned out to be genuine, as well as a distraction tactic.

During the third stage, he was set up to fight Kankuro, who forfeits the battle in order to keep the abilities of his puppet, Karasu, a secret. When the Sand and Sound ninja begin their attack on Konoha, Shino overhears Guy and Kakashi telling Naruto and Sakura to find Sasuke. Shino decides to help by following Sasuke. He catches up just as Sasuke is about to battle Kankuro. He then challenges Kankuro in Sasuke's place, claiming that Kankuro is his opponent, allowing Sasuke to continue chasing a fleeing Gaara and Temari. During the fight, he manages to disable Karasu's movement by clogging all its joints with bugs and also locates a hiding Kankuro, draining all of his chakra. However, he accidentally inhales some poison gas from Karasu in the process and falls unconscious soon afterward. His father, Shibi, later arrives and uses his bugs to draw out the poison from Shino's body.

Shino was the only male of the rookie nine left out of the (failed) mission to retrieve Sasuke Uchiha (as he was on a mission with his father at the time), and felt some bitterness and guilt over the matter, considering the eventual outcome might have been different had he been sent to help them as well. In the anime, he and Kiba help Hinata to train herself.

Shortly after Naruto's confrontation with Mizuki, and a subsequent lack of any information on Orochimaru's whereabouts, Shino leads Team 8 and Naruto to find the Bikochu, a rare insect with legendary tracking abilities. During this arc, he demonstrates his intelligence and cunning in battle, as well as his hobby of observing and collecting bugs. We also learn about the rivalry between his clan and another insect clan that uses bees, the Kamizuru Clan.

This arc shows how well their team works together and how much they care for each other. It also shows that he is good friends with both Kiba and Hinata, despite him being so mysterious. Although he and Naruto don't get along at first, they do become good friends. During the last confrontation between the Kamizuru Clan and Hinata, he explained and understood every step that Hinata took to change herself. In addition, he believed in her, allowing her to fight the bee-users alone while Naruto attempted to save her.

Shino also appears in the Ocean Country arc, this time being paired with Naruto and Ino under the command of Anko. They are ordered to find out what is terrorizing the country and defeat it if possible. Here, they meet two old enemies from the Chunin exams, both of which were actually working for Orochimaru. He and Naruto get along a lot better in this arc. He's shown having more confidence in Naruto, and worries about him when Naruto is separated from the group, but knows that Naruto will be fine. With Ino's help, he is able to defeat Yoroi. Unlike the previous mission Shino went on with Naruto, this mission ends in success.

Later, Shino was sent with Naruto on a mission to Motoyoshi Village where he was to be a stand-in for a man named Fuuta. The goal of the mission was to not laugh during a funeral, or otherwise Fuuta would lose his inheritance, and the ever serious Shino was sent as the perfect weapon for this task. However, due to sabotage (being drugged with a laughing poison), Shino had to sit out - leaving Naruto to attend the funeral in his place. At the end of the mission, Shino threatens Naruto to keep quiet about Naruto's discovery of Shino's sense of humor.

CHOJI AKIMICHI-
Choji Akimichi is a member of the Akimichi clan, one of the four noble clans in Konohagakure. As one of the 'Rookie Nine', Choji became a Genin in the same year as Naruto Uzumaki. Together with Shikamaru Nara and Ino Yamanaka, he was assigned to Asuma Sarutobi's Team 10. Choji, Shikamaru and Ino call themselves the "Ino-Shika-Cho Trio", just like their fathers before them.

As an Akimichi, Choji has learned the clan's secret jutsu, "Baika no Jutsu (The Art of Expansion, literally "Multi Size Technique")", and many related jutsu. He is easily motivated by the prospect of food and becomes highly agitated when somebody calls him fat (he refers to himself as "pleasantly plump"); however, he does not hide his love for food, enjoying Korean barbeque and wearing on his shirt the kanji for "food." His nigh-constant hunger is also a constant annoyance for his teammates, as sating himself often comes before other necessities such as stealth and teamwork.

The members of the Akimichi clans look upon themselves as caterpillars that do nothing but eat and eat and eat, possibly why Choji means butterfly and not pig, like Ino. Choji did become what was the dream of many in the Akimichi; he became the caterpillar who evolved into a butterfly as shown in his battle against Jirobo.

Choji's favorite foods are Korean barbeque, snacks and sweets. His least favorite foods are anything inedible. His hobby is buying snacks and his favorite phrase is "Meat".

Choji has a longstanding friendship with Shikamaru Nara. The two have complete trust in each other and Shikamaru is probably the only one who can see Choji's true strength. Choji also has unconditional faith in Shikamaru and, if necessary, would give his life for him.

During the Sasuke Retrieval Arc it is revealed that Choji, when he was younger, was often put down for not being good at a game called "Ninja", which appears to be a cross between tag and hide and seek. His peers were always berating him; telling him that any team that he is on is bound to lose. One day they simply refuse to let him play at all. However, Shikamaru sticks up for him saying that the teams would be uneven. This gives Choji a little hope, although in the end they still refuse to let him play. As he's walking away, however, he notices a butterfly stuck in a spider's web and frees it. Shikamaru sees this and ends up ditching the game.

A few minutes later, Choji and his father are seen talking on the roof of a building, the former still upset over the way he was treated by the other children. His father tells him that one day he will meet someone that he can get along with and that eventually they will be the best of friends. Right after that, Shikamaru walks up the stairs and Choji recognizes him as the one who had defended him earlier. He asks Shikamaru why he isn't playing the game, to which he responds that it was too troublesome. He then tells Choji that he likes to come up there to watch the clouds, and that Choji happens to be sitting in his spot. Choji moves over to give him room and Shikamaru proceeds to lie down and he introduces himself to Choji, and vice versa. Shikamaru tells him that he should be lazy and watch the clouds with him. This delights Choji and he eagerly asks Shikamaru if he wants to eat some snacks that he has brought. Shikamaru says that it sounds great and Choji is overjoyed that someone is being so nice to him. Shikamaru was the first person to ever look past Choji's athletic deficiencies and see that he was a good-hearted person and because of that he and Choji become best friends.

In the anime he has mentioned that he trains on his own.

Choji was one of the rookie 9 that took the exam. Choji's answers, during the first part of the exam, were not even written down by him, thanks to Ino's Shintenshin no Jutsu (Art of the Valentine) as she used it to write all his answers for him. During the second part of the test we learned that Choji does not like being called fat, and we saw his primary skills in action when he helped team 7 by fending off the 3 sound Genin entered in the exam; Dosu, Zaku, and Kin. During the third part of the exam, Choji is pitted against Dosu, but he is defeated shortly when Dosu uses his sound-amplifier in his arm to transmit the sound vibrations through the water in Choji's bodyfat.

Choji was one of the genin Shikamaru chose for the mission to return Sasuke Uchiha. Shikamaru was able to get Choji to come by eating Choji's favorite type of snacks with Naruto right in front of Choji's home. Then, when they had gotten to the last chip, Shikamaru called it out and Choji came bursting through the door in his nightwear. When Naruto asks why Choji wanted the last chip Choji had merely answer, "The last chip always tastes the best." This mission, however, was complicated by, and ultimately failed because of the Sound Four. Choji took on the powerful Jirobo by himself and was only able to defeat him thanks to the Akimichi clan's special Sanshoku no Ganyaku (OF̊ۖ, "Three colored pills"). The pills, colored green (spinach), yellow (curry), and red (pepper), give the user increasingly large boosts of chakra at the cost of health. The red pill alone is said to be fatal to the consumer; Choji consumed all three. After consuming the red pill, Choji's appearance changes due to the hundred-fold increase in his chakra. As the medicine was causing him to burn body-fat in exchange for chakra, his facial features, along with his body shape, hair, and voice, change dramatically: he even becomes quite thin. He also sprouts a pair of butterfly shaped wings made of pure chakra. His power becomes so great that when he punched the prone Jirobo, the ground underneath him produced a huge crater. In the field, he was kept alive for a short while by the friendship of his teammates, who had faith that he would defeat Jirobo and had etched directions onto tree trunks so that he could catch up. With the help of the Nara family's medical guide, and the densetsu no sannin, Tsunade, he was able to make a full recovery. And soon after, he was back to his normal size.

Choji appears for two missions in this arc, one to help rescue Ayame, the Ichiraku ramen shop's owner's daughter, and another along with Naruto and Hinata to escort some peddlers. In the mission to rescue Ayame, they are required to make the perfect ramen for the ryunin (food ninja). His part in helping was his expertise with food. In the peddler's arc, he serves a small, but lethal role. When Naruto and Choji were fighting the water user, they both saved each others lives a few times and they used teamwork to defeat the water user. Later, he frees Naruto from under a giant boulder, comically causing Naruto to get squished; this minor role leads Naruto to be able to save Hinata after she defeats the magnet user

ZABUZA MOMOCHI-Zabuza is a former ANBU member and Missing-nin from Kirigakure and an extremely powerful water jutsu user. Being a hidden mist-ninja, most of his jutsu are water-oriented. Zabuza is depicted as a character who is hard nosed, stubborn, and ambitious, so ambitious in fact that he had tried to kill the Mizukage and attempted a coup d'tat on the Land of Water, but failed and intended to finance another one by working as an assassin. He is known as the "Demon of the Hidden Mist" (霧隠れの鬼人, "Kirigakure no Kijin") since at age six he single-handedly killed all of the students in the village's ninja academy. (This event also marked the end of Kirigakure's custom of pitting students against one another in battles to the death.) Zabuza is of Jonin level and, as a member of the Seven Shinobi Swordsmen of the Mist (霧の忍刀七人衆, "Kiri no Shinobigatana Nananin Shu"), he wields a large Zanbatō.

Hired by Gato to assassinate Tazuna, he is forced to deal with Team 7, who have been assigned to protect Tazuna. During their first encounter, he manages to overpower Kakashi Hatake and trap him within his Water Prison Technique, and would have emerged victorious had it not been for a clever tactic deployed by Naruto Uzumaki. After Kakashi uses Zabuza's most powerful jutsu, Water Release: Great Waterfall Technique, against him, Zabuza's life is narrowly saved by his servant Haku. This young man poses as a hunter-nin to "kill" Zabuza and take his unconscious body away, ostensibly to assure that the secrets it held would not be uncovered by rival ninja clans.

Several years prior to his confrontation with Naruto's group, Zabuza had met the young and lonely Haku on the cold streets and taken him under his wing. In exchange, the boy gave a promise of complete loyalty. In a battle taking place on what is later to be named the "Great Naruto Bridge", Haku honors his promise by sacrificing his own life to save Zabuza, jumping in between him and Kakashi's Raikiri (Lightning Cut) attack. At first, Zabuza appears to think nothing of Haku's act, claiming that he was merely a tool, as are all shinobi. However, as an incredulous and outraged Naruto scolds him for his indifference, he finally admits to having cared for Haku. Shedding tears, he declares that even the most cold-hearted ninja is still human, and thus possesses feelings regardless of how much effort he or she puts into suppressing and concealing them.

After being wounded in both arms, Zabuza is confronted and ridiculed by Gato, who appears along with a mob to finish off both the assassin and those he failed to eliminate. Carrying Naruto's kunai in his mouth, Zabuza literally slices his way through the rank and file and finally kills Gato, but is impaled by six different weapons in the process. (In the manga, Zabuza kills him by decapitation with the kunai. In the anime, Gato is slashed and stabbed several times in the chest, and finally thrown off the bridge.) Before dying, Zabuza asks Kakashi to bury him alongside Haku, to which Kakashi complies.

TRIVIA
Zabuza, when translated figuratively from the Kanji in his name means "never cuts twice", a fitting name given that he kills most of his opponents with one strike of his knife techniques.

Zabuza's hobby is sharpening his blades, and his favorite word is "control".

Apparently, Zabuza does not have any eyebrows. Naruto even addresses him as a "freak with no eyebrows" on at least two occasions. While this is certainly held true in the original manga, several scenes in the anime mistakenly show Zabuza with eyebrows.

As declared by Kakashi, Zabuza was the first opponent to have seen his Sharingan twice before his demise.

Zabuza considered Naruto to be his last opponent, rather than Kakashi. However, this last battle was a war of words rather than a physical battle.

Zabuza graduated from the Ninja Academy at the age of nine; his age when he had become a Chunin is unknown. He has completed 4 D-rank, 67 C-rank, 79 B-rank, 29 A-rank and 12 S-rank missions.

Zabuza is still popular today, even after his very early death in the series. This may be because of his role as Naruto's first dangerous enemy, and the idea that the main character didn't beat him physically, but rather emotionally and mentally.
